VBCCO Membership Responsibilities

Welcome to the Virginia Beach Council of Civic Organizations (VBCCO)! As a member, you play a crucial role in representing your civic league or HOA and actively contributing to the success of our organization. Below are the key responsibilities of membership to ensure your civic league or HOA is fully engaged and makes the most of its VBCCO membership:

1. Update Your Civic League Information

To keep our records current, please watch the YouTube video clips below on “Updating your Membership Info.” These videos provide step-by-step instructions on how to update your civic league’s details in our system. It is especially important to provide the names and emails of your voting representatives and keep that information up to date.

2. Attend Meetings

Your attendance at VBCCO meetings is vital. We encourage you to participate actively, listen to discussions, and share your insights. This ensures your civic league stays informed about city-wide issues and initiatives.

3. Share Information with Your Civic League

After each meeting, it’s essential to take the information back and disseminate it to your civic league members. Keeping your members informed helps maintain transparency, builds engagement, and empowers your league to be more effective in addressing community matters.

4. Engage with VBCCO Leadership

Engage with VBCCO leadership during meetings and via email. Open communication helps address your concerns, ideas, and questions, ensuring your civic league's voice is heard and represented effectively.

5. Recruit New Civic Organization Members

Help grow the VBCCO by recruiting new civic leagues and HOAs in your area to join our network. The larger our coalition, the stronger our voice in addressing citywide issues.

6. Volunteer for Committees

Volunteering for committees is an excellent way to contribute to VBCCO’s mission and have a direct impact on the organization’s work. Whether it’s focusing on public safety, education, land use, or community development, your involvement matters.

7. Suggest Guest Speakers

Have a topic or speaker in mind that would benefit our members? We want to hear from you! Suggest speakers who can provide valuable insights on issues relevant to your neighborhood and the broader community.

8. Pay Annual Dues

Dues are $50 per year for each civic league, and they enable us to sustain our programs, events, and advocacy efforts. Remember, any member of your civic league can attend VBCCO meetings as part of this membership.

9. Speak at VBCCO Meetings

If you have a topic you’d like to present, you have two options:

  • For comments under 3 minutes, pick up a “question card” at the registration desk during a meeting.
  • For longer presentations, contact president@vbcco.org to get on the next meeting agenda.

Let’s Work Together!

Your active participation in VBCCO is critical to our collective success. By fulfilling these responsibilities, you help strengthen the voice of civic leagues across Virginia Beach and contribute to a better, more connected community.

If you have any questions about your responsibilities or need assistance, please reach out to membership@vbcco.org.
